STEEL & METAL MILLS

WHERE OUR PROVEN BOLTING SOLUTIONS SET THE STANDARD IN CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

TorcUP tools are used throughout steel and metal mills to address a wide variety of maintenance and assembly needs involving massive machinery and high-pressure systems.

KEY MACHINERY AND APPLICATION POINTS

Common Steel Mill Applications

Industrial bolting solutions are applied across nearly every stage of the milling process, including:

  • Production Infrastructure: Mill stands, pinion stands, roll tables, and continuous casters.

  • Processing Equipment: Coilers, slitter knives, pipe mills, and thrust collars on sheet mills.

  • Heavy Machinery: Mill motors, anchor bolts, work roll and furnace bearings, and large hydraulic or mechanical presses.

  • Facility Support: Slew rings and structural bolts for overhead facility cranes.

Cold Rolled Steel Case Study

A specific application involved a company manufacturing sheet pilings used for highway embankments and retaining walls.

  • The Task: Technicians needed to replace rollers on a large shaft that bends the steel. This rolling line consisted of 36 rollers.

  • The Challenge: To hold the rollers and allow for proper lubrication, the shaft had to be turned against a hydraulic nut.

  • The Solution: A TX-16 low-profile hydraulic wrench was utilized. Because of the unique geometry of the machinery, a special insert was manufactured for the tool's link to effectively turn the square shaft.

Forges and Presses

Related to metal milling, TorcUP tools are also used in forge shops and for stamping presses:

  • Forging Presses: In one instance, a TU-3 hydraulic wrench set to 800 lbf-ft was used to bolt die plates on a 4,000-ton forging press where space was extremely limited.

  • Stamping Presses: For maintaining presses that produce specialized metal parts (like artificial joints), the VT-500 battery-powered tool is used at 375 lbf-ft. In larger stamping presses, the VT-6000 allows a technician to be lowered inside the machine to torque bolts without the safety hazard of trailing hydraulic or air lines.
