WHERE OUR PROVEN BOLTING SOLUTIONS SET THE STANDARD IN CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

TorcUP provides specialized industrial bolting solutions for both surface and underground mining operations, addressing challenges across a wide range of heavy equipment and infrastructure.

KEY MACHINERY AND APPLICATION POINTS

Mining Equipment and Common Applications

Bolting solutions are required for nearly every piece of machinery in a mine, including draglines, shovels, highwall miners, and various tracked or wheeled vehicles. Common bolting applications include:

  • Tracked Machinery: Track bolts, tracked vehicle undercarriages, and final drives.

  • Processing Infrastructure: Slurry pumps, prep plant screen mechanism bolts, and load outs.

  • Excavation and Drilling: Rock drills, hammers, cutting teeth, and cutting edges on bulldozers.

  • Rotational Components: Slewing rings on excavators, shovels, and cranes.

Specific Mining Case Studies

The sources highlight several high-profile mining applications where TorcUP tools were successfully implemented:

  • Joy Miner Cutter Head (Underground): For underground mining, maintaining cutter heads is a major task. Socket head cap screws are often recessed into pockets at difficult angles, making them hard to reach. A TU-3 hydraulic wrench equipped with a 22 mm socket and an Allen bit provided an "absolute perfect fit" for these adjacent slots.

  • Highwall Miner: This machine mines coal seams up to 1000 ft deep from a shelf without requiring miners to go underground. Key bolting points include Superbeam bolts for disassembly, Pedestal bolts  (recessed Allen bolts), and Auger Beam bolts. The recommended setup is a TU-2 hydraulic wrench with an extension handle, 3" reaction arm boot, and direct drive Allen adapters.

  • Longwall Coal Mine Chain: This 2000+ foot mechanism drags coal across the mine floor and requires massive maintenance. Every three feet, "flights" are bolted to the chain with three bolts each, totaling approximately 2,000 bolts that must be broken and re-torqued to 1,800 lbf-ft every few months. The TT-320 pneumatic torque wrench is used for this high-volume task.

  • Phosphate Mining Slurry Pumps: At Mosaic, a leading phosphate mine company, Volta (VT) battery tools are used for preventative maintenance on GIW/KSB slurry pumps. Technicians use these tools to ensure the pumps stay tight to their foundations, applying torque in the range of 1,300–1,500 lbf-ft with a sliding reaction arm.
