Marine Engine Maintenance

The primary application in this sector is the repair and maintenance of massive marine diesel engines, such as those from MAN, MTU, CAT, and Detroit Diesel.

  • Common Engine Points: Critical tasks include bolting cylinder heads, main bearings, flywheel bolts, and vibration damper bolts.

  • Space Restrictions: Working inside vessel engine rooms requires tools that can fit into extremely tight spaces.

  • Preferred Tooling: The VT1000-.75 battery tool paired with a 12” sliding arm is the standard setup. This configuration is preferred over 1” drives because it is much lighter and easier to navigate on board.

  • Crab Nut Bolts: Frequently found on tug boats. The RP-6000 pneumatic wrench equipped with a specialized Clawfoot reaction arm is the preferred solution.

  • Prop Nuts: These require significant torque and are typically handled with a VT-3000 and a modified reaction arm.

  • Stabilizers and Thrusters: Depending on the size of the vessel, the VT-2000 or VT-3000 battery tools are the favored choices for these critical maneuvering components.

  • Bolted Blade Propellers: There are multiple types such as built-up, adjustable, and controllable pitch propellers which use high-strength internal or flange that the TU-7 has been used.

  • Key Features: Manufactured from high-strength stainless steel to minimize maintenance, they feature a non-slip surface for diver handling and twin hydraulic connections for simple assembly.

  • Offshore Applications: These tools are applied to API 17D - 10k flanges commonly found in offshore oil and gas operations.

  • Major Ports and Rivers: Areas handling the shipping and cruise industries.
