BRIDGES

WHERE OUR PROVEN BOLTING SOLUTIONS SET THE STANDARD IN CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

TorcUP tools are used in several critical bridge construction and maintenance applications, ranging from cable coupling on major suspension bridges to the assembly of highway bridge sections.

KEY MACHINERY AND APPLICATION POINTS

Major Bridge Projects

  • Tacoma Narrows Bridge: A TX-16 hydraulic wrench with a 3 7/8" ratchet link was utilized for cable coupling mid-span.

  • Manhattan Bridge: The TX-8 low-profile tool, equipped with an extended reaction arm and stack socket, was used to react against custom TorcUP reaction sockets.

General Assembly and Maintenance

  • Splice Plate Bolting: For highway bridges, sections are often bolted together in a shop before being delivered to the site for final erection.

    • Historically, the TU-2 hydraulic wrench has been used at approximately 800 lbf-ft for this application.

    • Modern recommendations suggest using "Pistol Grip" tools (like the Raptor or VT series) to reduce assembly time and improve ergonomics.

  • Bridge Truss Assembly: The RP-3000 pneumatic torque wrench is used for bolting bridge truss slice plates both during initial assembly and during actual field installation.

Key Tools for Bridge Work

Based on the specific applications mentioned, the preferred tools for bridge work include:

  • TX Series (Low Profile Hydraulic): Used for cable coupling and areas with specific reaction point requirements (e.g., TX-8, TX-16).

  • TU Series (Square Drive Hydraulic): Common for splice plate bolting.

  • RP Series (Pneumatic): Favored for truss assembly due to speed and power (e.g., RP-3000).
